Hjertelig velkommen to this series of Ylvis-based Norwegian language lessons!
Today, we learn the basics of conjugating verbs in the present tense, as well as some pronouns and useful phrases, with the help of this beautiful song Jeg Heter Finn.
Dialect note: Vegard is singing in an Oslo dialect rather than his usual Bergen dialect, because “Finn” is supposed to be from Oslo. I’ll note specific differences as we come to them.
This song is pretty great because you can learn a lot of words for gratuitous household items from it. But for now, I’d like to draw your attention to the first two lines of the second repetition of the chorus:
De sier Mogens, de sier Jens, de roper Holger, og skriker Klaus
Jeg ekke dansk, jeg heter Finn, jeg bor på Tåsen, jeg heter Finn.
Anybody out there studying norsk? How goes it? I’d just love to hear from fellow students :) Would you mind reblogging, so this gets around?
THIS. IS. HYSTERICAL.
Explanation for non-Norwegians:
Back at their radio show, Bård and Vegard told their listeners that they were to have dinner with their parents soon. As a fun thing, they told their listeners to come with suggestions to something they would say during this meal. The winner suggestion was the question “mom, have you gotten “it” up the ass ever?” (horrible translation, but thats really what they’re saying. They’re trying to be vague. You all understand what they mean, right?) And by losing in rock paper scissors, Vegard got to be the lucky one.
In the clip you hear people chatting, before Vegard goes “moooom, have you gotten “it” up the ass ever?”. Their mother goes “what?”, people (including Vegard) start laughing, and Vegard says “it’s just a question…”. And that’s when their little brother goes completely crazy. He’s the one that sounds like a complete maniac. Vegard repeats the question, while Bjarte sounds like he’s dying. Mom: “why are you asking me about that?” Vegard: “I don’t know. I don’t wanna know the answer”. And as you can hear, the rest is just laughter and chatter.
Just a compilation of Vegard making an adorable sound. Inspired by THIS post.
Hey, are there any dedicated ylvis blogs out there that I’m not following yet?
