YLVIS – LIFE GOES ON AFTER THE MEDIA CIRCUS (x)
By Maija Haavisto
The Norwegian Ylvis began their career with a revue called Ylvis – En konsert in 2000. The brother duo rose into world fame in fall 2013 with their hit What Does The Fox Say. In spring 2014 it was time for the first big concert in the sold-out Oslo Sprektrum. It wasn’t because of the Fox, though, because they had booked the arena two years previously. Nothing was held back at the concert, not choirs, dancers, marching bands or pyros. The younger of the brothers, Bård Ylvisåker, 31, had time to quickly meet the Vertigo reporter during the soundcheck.
Q: You have often said that The Fox-fame was a complete surprise to you and that your point was namely to waste the unique opportunity working with the star producers by doing a total flop. Did you still secrectly wish it would become a viral hit anyway?
A: Not really. We have realised such ideas for years. The only different variable in this process was that we were produced by Stargate
Q: You didn’t think about it, even as a joke?
A: No we really didn’t have any idea. Some of our songs have had a million views on You Tube,so we were expecting something similar. I think it was also the key to success. If you try too hard, it becomes too apparent.
Q: Why do you always say you’re not musicians, even though you sing well and play different instruments?
A: I think that we just came in through the comedy door. Once you step into that path, there is no turning back. We wouldn’t have had the chance to be musicians without the comedy.
please watch ylvis videos that arent the fox. you will thank me
